Aerial Arts — Aerial Silks, Lyra, Trapeze

Aerial arts combine the beauty of dance with the fun of a circus. It's a great way for dancers to cross-condition or for any kid to build flexibility, strength, and balance — and LSPA is proud to be the first studio to offer aerial arts classes in Lafayette! In our aerial silks or aerial arts (which include silks, lyra, trapeze, and triple trapeze) classes, students learn to perform aerial acrobatics while hanging from a special fabric (silks), hoop (lyra), or bar (trapeze). The center of the long fabric or other aerial device is secured safely overhead, and students practice over cushioned mats. In the Lafayette aerial silks classes, students learn the proper way to climb the suspended fabric and move in and out of various positions using the fabric to wrap, suspend, spiral, and move their bodies. In the aerial arts classes, students learn silks as well lyra and trapeze skills!

Our Lafayette aerial silks and arts classes are designed for students of all levels from complete beginner to those with acrobatic backgrounds. A logical progression allows students to learn exciting skills and have fun while building strength and continuing to advance. Students must test out of basic levels before entering into more advanced levels of instruction.

Lafayette School of Performing Arts also offers an aerial silks and gymnastics combination class for ages five to seven, as well as adult aerial arts classes

AERIAL Arts

Our Lafayette aerial silks classes teach students the fun of flying in a safe way that conditions and builds strength. With classes for all ages and abilities, all aerial silks levels at our Lafayette studio introduce students to basic wraps, climbs, and tricks with aerial silks. Students start from the ground up and eventually learn intricate wraps and skills. From the floor, students learn basic wraps and poses, and then move into working with the silks tied in an eggknot (slipknot). As students progress in classes or levels, they learn fundamental aerial silks skills like single and double foot locks, as well as inversions and sequencing of moves. As students advance, the sequencing and skill levels become more in-depth, and in the highest level, students may be introduced to drops. Throughout all classes, the focus is on proper body position and conditioning exercises. Class levels are divided by skill level.

These aerial arts classes at Lafayette School of Performing Arts teach the same fun skills as the aerial silks classes (description above); however, they also include other aerial arts such as lyra hoop, trapeze and triple trapeze! The focus remains on safe exercises and correct body positions while conditioning and building strength. These classes are also available for any ability from beginner to pro, and students will be placed in a levels that fits their age and ability. As students progress, the skills will become more advanced to match and continue advancing their training.  Classes are divided by skill level and students are placed by instructor.
